1. 99% Invisible - On Average (#226)
Every once in a while a podcast produces an episode that perfectly encapsulates the ethos of the show.  For 99% Invisible, 'On Average' is that episode. Hidden forces of design that dictate untold amounts of things in your life?  Check.  Rich and quirky evolution of said forces?  Check.  A contemplative takeaway that will make you rethink your surroundings?  Check.  It's all here, delivered in Roman Mar's signature purr.

2. Our National Conversation About Conversations About Race - Cold Empathy For Nate Parker
My recollection of the show (which has been on hiatus for 6 months or so) was conflated with the excellent NPR podcast "Codeswitch" - both tackle stories in the media surrounding issues of race and identity, after all.  While both are nearly always must-listen, "About Race" does a little better with playing devil's advocate or at least presenting ideas from multiple perspectives.  The return of About Race couldn't have come at a better time, as the crew delves into all things Nate Parker.  So glad to have you all back in my ears!

3. Code Switch - The Angers Of Life As An American 'Nobody'
Marc Lamont Hill speaks to "Code Switch" host Gene Denby about a radical idea to change the way the American judicial system doles out punishment.  Those familiar with restorative justice wont find too much new material here, but for the uninitiated it's a good intro.  Though some of Hill's argument may come off as unfounded or incomplete, his assertion that no individual is beyond redemption struck me as both poetic and a deeply affecting way to view our fellow man.

4. Criminal - The Editor (#49)
Two weeks in a row, "Criminal" makes the list!  I couldn't not include this compelling tale of a man who develops an affinity for reading the encyclopedia and in turn forms a relationship with an editor.  This is this prime material for inspiring made-for-TV movies, but with just enough quirkiness that I think it'd make a great indie novel or play.
