I didn't quite have time to pull together a full edition of Pod Piper today, but here are some abbreviated episode reviews along with a healthy serving of honorable mentions to get you through the short work week ahead.
THE LIST

1. Revisionist History - "Burden of Proof"
This is reminiscent of Gladwellian tipping point ruminations, with a bit more aggressive "what gives?" stance that underlines the logical gap between institutions of higher education promoting a sport that causes brain damage. 

2. Radiolab - "More or Less Human"
Artificial intelligence is certainly a topic primed and ready for the Radiolab treatment, and this episode delivers with more talk about Furbies than I've heard in decades.

3. The Allusionist - "Oot in the Open"
When a language is demonized and outlawed, does it die or does it adapt?

THE LIST 1. Decoder Ring  - "The Incunabula Papers" Yes, this was my number one pick last week. And yes, I did listen to it again this week, in part for  my review of Decoder Ring  for Podcast Review (a channel of the LA Review of Books ), but also because it is very good. It's an exceptional episode of an incredible show, and intrepid listening leads to the revelation of a secret episode. After spending a year living in Spain, my natural inclination to search out podcasts led me to discover a number of Spanish-language shows. Since language learning can be hard to pursue and stick with, the passivity of podcasts offered me an easy way to keep the language in my ears while avoiding the mental block lodged between my free time and the act of intentional study. There were moments that I sat down and followed along with a Spanish podcast, occasionally referencing a transcript of the given episode, and no doubt this practice was much more beneficial. By in large, I took the approach of using podcasts to supplement other methods of study, as none of these shows are geared toward complete beginners.
